As a summer camp counselor your primary responsibility is the care and safety of our campers — boys and girls ages 6 to 16. Our camps teach children how to become self-reliant and independent, under your close supervision.
You will help kids make friends, resolve disputes, lead them through daily activities, eat with them, sleep in cabins with them, clean up together, have new adventures, cheer each other on, and so much more.
It’s a real job. You will gain valuable personal and professional skills that will help you in whatever you choose to pursue in your career.
You’ll be building relationships with not only the campers, but their parents, your fellow counselors, and the whole Vista Camps family!
The most important part of your job is making sure kids feel safe, and are encouraged.
Girls start their day at 7am. Boys start out at 8am. As a counselor you will wake up your cabin and get everyone started with their day.
The girls raise the flag every morning at 7:20am, followed by cabin cleanup. Boys have breakfast at 8:20am and then they go back and get their cabins ready for morning inspection.
Starting at 8:55am for the girls, and 9:55am for the boys, you will be assisting campers with their activities. It’s your job to show the kids how it’s done, to offer encouragement, and be there for any questions they might have.
Activities end at 10:55am for the girls and 11:55am for the boys. At this point you’re almost halfway through the day! Keep your campers engaged, and help where you may need to.
Girls eat at 12:00pm, followed by the boys at 1:00pm. You’ll want to make sure your cabin gets washed up, and is on time for lunch. Eat up, and get ready for the afternoon.
At 1:00pm the girls go off to their cabins to rest, and the boys go at 2:00pm. Rest Period in everyone’s opportunity to escape the head and take a break to recharge for the afternoon.
After resting for a while you’ll take your cabin over to the snack shop, and hang out for a bit, then everyone has two more activity periods to round out the afternoon.
It’s your job to keep everyone’s spirits up, and encourage your campers with whatever they may be doing.
The girls wash up at 5:20pm while the boys lower the flag, then get ready for dinner.
Time to eat! Make sure your cabin is at dinner on time. You don’t want to be last in line!
Evening Program is typically a group activity enjoyed by everyone. Get ready for some fun!
Get ready for bed by having your cabin wash up, then hang out by the fire until lights out. You’ll be ready for bed when the time comes. You and yourr campers have another busy day ahead!
Our days are full at camp so the summer passes by quickly. You’ll be amazed wht the last day of camp comes.
